New Zealand Manaaki Scholarships For International StudentsNew Zealand Manaaki Scholarships For International Students
​ Study in New Zealand on fully funded Manaaki Scholarships. The Manaaki New Zealand  Scholarships are provided by the Government of New Zealand to developing countries of the world. These scholarships are fully funded and international students from developing countries are invited to apply. 

Students who secure these New Zealand Manaaki scholarships will study at universities and college in  New Zealand. 

About Manaaki New Zealand Scholarships 
The Manaaki New Zealand Scholarship is a scholarship program funded by the New Zealand Government. This scholarship program is available for selected countries , particularly of developing countries around the world. 

The purpose of a Manaaki New Zealand Scholarship is to invest in the education of citizens from developing countries, enabling them to positively impact on their country's development by sharing new skills and knowledge gained while on scholarship.  Papua New Guinean students benefit from this scholarship program. 

Levels of Study programs available under New Zealand Manaaki Scholarships 
For International students can study in the following programs
  • Undergraduate Degree (3-4 years)
  • Postgraduate Certificate (6 months)
  • Postgraduate Diploma (1 year)
  • Master’s Degree (1-2 years)
  • PhD (3.5 years)
Field of Study 

There are seven (7) focus sectors that are supported for study. These are listed below. 
1. Climate change: environmental, rural, water and natural resource 
    management.
2. Disaster risk management: civil engineering, engineering 
    technology, geology, geophysics and infrastructure construction.
3. Food security and agriculture: agricultural science, agri-business, 
    agricultural commerce and technology. 
4. Renewable energy: energy distribution systems and technologies, 
    solar, hydroelectricity, geothermal and wind energy.
5. Private sector development and economic resilience: business, 
    commerce and Marketing.
6. Good governance: public management, public financial 
    management, government services, governance, international 
    relations, accounting and international law.
7. ICT: software engineering, networks and IT security.
  • Scholarship Benefits under New Zealand Scholarships 
International who are selected under the  New Zealand Scholarships will benefit from the follow package.
  •  Full Tuition Fees
  •  Living allowances (a Stipend) of NZ$531 per week
  •  Establishment allowance of NZ$3000
  •  Medical Insurance
  •  Tutoring costs of NZ$1000
  • Travel to and from own country airtickets
  • Travel insurance
  •  Travel home during your scholarship (a scholar must study 1.6 years under the scholarship program)
  •  Reimbursements 
  •  reintegration allowance of NZ$1000
  •  Research grants for Post Graduate students 
New Zealand Manaaki Eligible Countries
  • Pacific Countries : Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji (postgraduate only), Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu
  • Asian Countries : Cambodia, Indonesia, Jordan, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Viet Nam
  • African countries : Algeria, Angola, Botswana, Djibouti, Eswatini, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe
  • Caribbean Countries : Belize, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname.
  • Latin American Countries : Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Venezuela

New Zealand Manaaki Scholarship Eligibility

International students from the above countries who are applying for Manaaki New Zealand scholarships must meet the following selection requirements 
  •  you must be 18 years old or older when you start your scholarship.
  •  Must have New Zealand Student VISA (check out for New Zealand VISA requirements on the link provided at the end of this post)
  • New Zealand’s border settings no longer require all foreign nationals to be vaccinated against COVID-19 before travelling to New Zealand
  • Successful scholarship applicants must meet both the academic entry requirements and the English language requirements determined by each education institution.
  • PhD applicants should look for a supervisor as soon as possible
  • English Language Requirements 
  • English language testing takes place during the final stages of the scholarship selection process.
The scholarship program accepts test scores from these four English competency testing systems:
  • IELTS (the International English Language Testing System) OR
  •  TOEFL (the Test of English as a Foreign Language) OR
  •  PTE Academic (the Pearson Test of English Academic) OR
  •  Cambridge Academic English (advanced).
  • If you have passed an IELTS, TOEFL, PTE Academic or Cambridge Academic English (advanced) test to the required level during the last 12 months, then your university or education institution may accept these test scores.
If you do not have IELTS, TOEFL, PTE Academic or Cambridge Academic English (advanced) test scores from the last 12 months, the applicants on the short list will be advised accordingly, if and when they need to sit one of these English competency tests.

Generally, to study for a postgraduate qualification, you must have at least:
  • an overall IELTS score of 6.5 and no band less than 6.0
  •  a TOEFL score of 90 on the internet-based test with a writing score of 21
  •  an overall PTE Academic score of 58 with no communicative skills score less than 50
  •  a Cambridge Academic English (advanced) overall score of 176 with no bands less than 169.
  • Generally, to study for an undergraduate qualification, you must have at least:
  • an overall IELTS score of 6.0 and no band less than 5.5
  • a TOEFL score of 80 on the internet-based test with a writing score of 21
  • an overall PTE Academic score of 50, with no communication skills score less than 42
  •  a Cambridge Academic English (advanced) overall score of 169 with no bands less than 162.

Postgraduate scholarship applicants and applicants who finished high school more than 3 years ago, must have relevant work experience. Work experience can be paid, unpaid or voluntary, and must meet the following criteria:
  • One year of full-time work experience (i.e. 30 hours or more per week), OR
  • Two years of part-time work experience (i.e. up to 29 hours per week)
