Tonga High School  is a premier secondary school located in Tonga's Capital  Nukuʻalofa, Tonga. It is a state run school that caters for  students aged 11 to 18 (Forms 1 - 7).

Tonga High School was established in 1947 by Prince Tungi, the Minister of Education. Prince Tungi later became King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV, the late King of Tonga (July 1918 to September 2006). The aim of the school is to provide an opportunity for students to achieve a level of education equivalent to that offered in neighbouring countries such as New Zealand and Australia.

Academics Structure for Tonga High School

Students studying at  Tonga High School are  assigned to a Form Class with a Form Teacher. Form teachers are  directly responsible for the welfare of each student in that class.
There are more  or at least 35 classes altogether at moment from levels F1-7. The breakdown is as follows:

F1 - 5 classes
F2 - 5 classes
F3 - 6 classes*
F4 - 6 classes * (*subject to changes)
F5 - 5 classes*
F6 - 5 classes*
F7 - 4 classes

Subject Combination at Tonga High School

The selection of subject options at Tonga High School  for the new academic year is made before the end of the previous academic year and finalised during registration. Students choose their options and may seek counseling if they need to be advised on a possible career path.
Students can take up an extra subject ONLY with approval from the administration. The extra subject will not be ranked for awards. 2 weeks is given for any changes to the options selected.
Students are NOT ALLOWED to take less than the required number of subjects for a particular level. 

Forms 1- 2 study 7 subjects . These are  English, Mathematics, Science, Lea Faka-Tonga, Tonga Society & Culture, Creative Technology
Movement & Fitness. 

Forms 3 - 4 Study 7 subjects :  Compulsory Subjects are : English, Mathematics, Science, Tala ‘o Tonga, Pastoral Care  Options subjects are : (take 3 options) History, Geography, Accounting, Economics, Computer Studies, French,  Japanese,  Chinese,  Home Economics, Industrial Arts

Form 5 study 6 subjects:  English ,Mathematics Science, Tala ‘o Tonga, Pastoral Care  Option: (take 2 options) History, Geography, Accounting, Economics, Computer Studies, Biology, French, Japanese, Chinese, Home Economics, Industrial Arts.

Tonga High School Entrance Exam Results 

In order to Study at Tonga High School, students at primary schools in Tonga must pass the Tonga High School  Entrance Examination.  These exams are taking by students in the form 1- 3 to qualify for the high school placing. Tonga High School also accepts students who have passed the Entrance Exams.

The Results of the Entrance Examinations are often released by the Tonga Ministry of Education.
