Curtin STAR Scholarships in Australia

The Curtin STAR Scholarship has been developed by Curtin University in Australia to assist students who may otherwise not have an opportunity to attend university due to a low socio-economic background and financial hardship.

Scholarships Benefits 
The Curtin STAR Scholarship will provide the following support for the expected duration of the offered undergraduate degree (based on
a full-time study load of 200 credits per year):
A total value ranging between:

• l $3,000 and $9,000 for a 3 year degree
• l $3,500 and $10,500 for a 3.5 year degree
• l $4,000 and $12,000 for a 4 year degree
• l $5,000 and $15,000 for a 5 year degree
• l $5,500 and $16,500 for a 5.5 year degree

Paid as a cash stipend ranging between $500 and $1,500 per study period. The amount can be used at the recipient's discretion to
contribute towards educational related expenses.
Semester payments will be made approximately mid-March and mid-August each year.

Eligibility criteria
Applicants must meet ALL of the following criteria to be eligible to apply for the Curtin STAR Scholarship:

• l Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, Australian permanent humanitarian or New Zealand citizen
• l Selected Curtin University as a first or second preference through TISC to undertake an undergraduate degree in 2020
• l Financial hardship and low socio-economic status

This scholarship is deferrable for up to one year.
Enrolment requirements
Recipients must meet ALL of the following:

• l Maintain enrolment each study period at Curtin University
• l Maintain a course weighted average (CWA) of at least 50 each study period
• l Fail no more than one unit each study period

Scholarship continuity is subject to meeting satisfactory academic progress as outlined above. Progress will be assessed at the end of
each study period. Unless there are exceptional circumstances, a recipient with unsatisfactory progress or who breaches the  scholarship conditions shall be ineligible to retain the scholarship. Exceptional circumstances must be forwarded to and shall be at
the discretion of the Scholarships Office.

Step 2: Complete

• l Complete the application form online
• l Application form can be saved at any point of the process
• l Multiple scholarships can be applied for at one time
• l Tips on how to complete your application can be found under the Applying for scholarships link on the scholarships website

Step 3: Submit

• l Closing date is listed at the top of the page
• l Incomplete applications will not be assessed
• l Once submitted, application status will change to submitted

Step 4: Receipt

• l Application receipt will be sent to the email address provided when you created your Curtin account, once your applicationhas been submitted

Step 5: Assessment

• l Applications will be assessed by an assessment panel using the following criteria:

¡ Responses to questions in application form
¡ Financial hardship and socioeconomic status

Step 6: Outcome

• l Outcome will be sent via the email address listed through TISC on 23 December 2019 (all successful and unsuccessful

applicants will be notified)

Step 7: Acceptance

• l Successful applicants (including those who wish to defer their studies) must return acceptance documents by 31 January

2020

• l Deferral of this scholarship is permitted (details included in scholarship terms and conditions)

Please note:

• l Scholarship will be awarded if there are applicants of sufficient need
• l Scholarship will commence from first semester of study
• l Scholarship is not transferable to another university
