THE East New Britain’s provincial government plans to create scholarship programme for its students to study in local and overseas universities.
In line with its efforts to provide quality education, it sent five officials to visit universities in the Philippines.
The scholarship will cover tuition and other fees.
Provincial education committee chairman Cosmas Bauk said PNG universities were running out of space to accommodate Grade 12 graduates.
Out of 17,000 Grade 12 graduates last year, only about 4,500 students were able to proceed to university,” he said.
“I believe that allocating more funds for education will develop a system that accommodates everybody.”
The provincial government has sponsored two students to take up engineering courses in the Philippines through the education placement services of Paradise International Education Consultancy.
